The pundits reminds us day in and day out that history is in the making for the first time ever with a woman and a black man running for the highest political office in the nation. However, as I watched the two democratic candidates compete in their 19th debate, in the Lone Star State of Austin, Texas; I suddenly realized that never before had I ever witnessed two Senators, in the final stages of the democratic elections, vying for the presidency. I mean, usually its two Governors.
Senator Barack Obama and Senator Hillary Clinton both gave commanding performances in answering policy questions thrown at them. The two candidates are so similiar on policies, that's its tough to decide on that regard. So, I'll say the competition was a draw. However, because Senator Obama has won the last eleven elections, it was very important for Senator Hillary Clinton to do better than best. In my opinion, this was Senator Hillary Clinton's best debate-but was it good enough to change voters mind? I thought she looked relaxed, was quick to deliver answers and more important, she explained to the American people why she should be the democratic nominee (without the negative attacks). Finally, Senator Hillary Clinton's defining moment in the debate (in my opinion), was receiving a standing ovation at the end of her closing statement.
Both candidates have similiar policies, both candidates have experience, both candidates are Senators for large, metropolitan cities, both candidates are making history (a woman, a black man) and both candidates oppose the current administrations way of running the country. So who do we elect? Too bad we don't know the candidates running mates.
I really think its going to come down to electability, likability and more important; the execution of policy once in the White House. In my opinion, Obama gets points on ALL three. Obama also has the momentum, money and MO-Jo, to compete in November. However, execution of policies, execution of national security, execution of bringing both parties together, execution in bringing the country together, execution of ending the Iraq war, execution of a universal healthcare plan, jobs, a stable economy, education, tax reform, finance reform, balancing the budget, green technology etc, etc, etc; are ALL the issues that voters will access when they go to the voting booths on March 4th in Texas.
